When you look at the back of a Lay's Kettle Chip bag, you find the QR Code missing. It was sadly before its time and now it is gone for now from the potato chip bag in my pantry.
But it instead of eliminating a way to connect with their customers it has been replaced by a Short Code. A shortened phone number so customers text a word to their Short Code and presto ...they are easily connected by a text message.
It is happening so fast...that you could look at it as a standard of media marketing not just a new way to advertise.
There are only so many slots in your customer's way of communicating. When do you think you want to take one of the available slots, therefore pushing out your competition?
Who ever gets there first wins.
